Hello!Remember when your mother would always encourage you to stop watching TV and go out and play? There was a reason for that! Moving your body keeps your brain healthy! Today on Maude's Two-Minute Meddlings, I'm going to discuss how and why physical activity keeps your brain in optimum shape.
#1 - It increases blood flow to the brain
A steady, healthy flow of blood to your brain is important for two reasons. First, the blood brings oxygen and nutrients to the brain, which is essential for your brain to function.Second, the blood washes away waste that has been linked to dementia -- good riddance,I say!
#2 -- It reverses the negative effects of stress
Movement releases hormones that soothe your brain and provide a nourishing environment for the growth of brain cells. Ahhhhh, I feel calmer already! And smarter. Which brings me to...
#3 It improves learning
Exercise increases the level of your brain chemicals, which help make new brain cells. This makes it easier for you to learn. The more complicated the activity -- like playing tennis or taking a dance class -- the bigger the benefit.
#4 -- It lifts depression
Exercise appears to stimulate the growth of neurons in certain areas of your brain, acting as a natural mood elevator.
and #5 -- It fends off memory loss
Studies have shown if you're engaged in even a small amount of exercise -- short walks, gardening, cleaning -- you'll score better on mental tests than those who didn't exercise at all.

Russia extends ban on food imports
The Russian government has extended a ban on food imports for another year. The ban on imports includes cheeses and dairy products, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables from Australia, Canada, the EU, the US and Norway.
Aleksander Konovalov has been running his farm in the Moscow region for almost 6 years…. It started off as a small family business, growing steadily over the years. But since Russia reiterated Western sanctions over Ukraine with a ban on EU and US food, the demand for some of the farm’s dairy products has jumped by 50%.
"There was a huge flow of foodstuffs into Russia from abroad before and then it stopped suddenly. We are gradually replacing it. But it doesn't mean that we will be able to replace the same levels overnight. We need 3-4 years to fully substitute products imported from abroad," he said.
This eco farm processes around 500 litres of milk per day and offers a variety of dairy products, including its own mozzarella cheese . With skyrocketing popularity, the farm is planning to expand business and open its own shops in Moscow.
This means that Russian supermarket shelves will continue stocking up local products. This hasn't gone down well with everyone though… In Moscow in particular, where people have grown accustomed to fresh Italian parmesan and French foir gras.
Despite the ban, many Western products made their way into Russian supermarkets. In a controversial move, Moscow launched an offensive to destroy contraband food. Tons of cheese and jamon were bulldozed over or burnt. The move caused a public outcry. With one in 7 people in Russia living below poverty line, thousands of people are calling for an end to destruction of food and giving it to the poor instead.

New WWII documentary to premiere on CCTV
Beijing is gearing up for grand celebrations on September the Second and Third to mark the conclusion of World-War-Two, 70 years ago. A week beforehand, a new documentary series will air that examines China's pivotal role in the Allied victory.
"Oriental Main Battlefield" explores the Eastern battlefield long overlooked in Western-centered narratives of the war. It draws together a wide range of historical sources, including de-classified government files, news reports by Chinese and foreign journalists, and war archives from museums and research institutes around the world.
"We look at history with full respect and, in our documentary, we want to tell history the way it was. It's important to review our perspective towards history on such an occasion," said Yan Dong, chief producer.
The series is very thoroughly researched. Prior to shooting, the writers spent two years working on the script in consultation with several university professors and museum curators. And the filming crew traveled to more than 180 locations where battles actually took place.
What's more, the production features many hours of footage and images previously unreleased.
"Younger generations have no direct experience of being at war, so they tend to learn and understand history with an independent perspective. This new documentary series is all about historical facts, which they'll love," Yan said.
The series ties in with recent comments by British author Francis Pike about China's critical role in tying down one-and-a-half million Japanese troops during the conflict. He argued history will be rebalanced to look at events in Asia during the Second World War as more important than those in Europe.
"Oriental Main Battlefield" premieres on the 25th of August on China Central Television's Channels 1, 4 and 10.
