Prince Charles Backs Farmers In Country Life

On the eve of his 65th birthday, Prince Charles edits Country Life and rails against the deals supermarkets strike with farmers.

Dine on the farm, he is soon to a pensioner with passion. Last month, the Prince of Whales took on the banks. This month, he is defending the countryside. He says it cannot be right that the big retailers who take none of the risk do much better than the typical farmer. Dean Urwens Farm at Richmond.

“The farmers are at the frontline, and we have to produce to certain specifications that the supermarkets want us to meet, certain factors if they want to buy from us. If you don’t meet those specifications, they don’t take your product. Certainly, I think the bottom-line for all the supermarkets, would say, is profit. “

The Urwens are competing with those supermarkets. They run their own farm shop.

“I think it is a good support to the local farmers. The supermarkets have got too bad now, and really the farmers are not given a good day for the products they supply ”

“Everything is under the one roof. The product all they made is from the farm of Lain, and I know that all the bacons are made from scratch.”

His Royal highness regards the farm as the backbone of our nation identity. He says the countryside is as precious as any of our Great Cathedrals, and that we erode it at our peril.

Prince Charles expressed his fears in the Country Life magazine. He has guest-edited a special edition to mark his 65th birthday tomorrow. The heir to the throne appears to have no plan for a quieter life, despite reaching the age of retirement, while waiting for the ultimate promotion.
