Nick D. The most compelling heroes are always those who use a nonviolent means to spark a revolution. Thus, Apartheid activist Stephen Biko stands up as one of M important heroes the dejected continent of Africa has even known. Biko founded the influential Black Consciousness Movement, where he would speak out against the forces being put against his people. Yet, in a tragic act of martyrdom, Biko was brutally murdered under police custody, which sparked a worldwide glance at whether the Apartheid regime could be trusted. Though Biko is vastly more appreciated posthumously than he was when he was alive, he nonetheless stands as a figurehead of hope for the poverty and violence ridden African nation.
