　　The government, as a decision-maker, is the representative of citizen’s basic interests. In this sense, every governmental policy will inevitably exert a profound influence on the further prosperity of the nation. People differ greatly in their views as to whether or not it is more preferable for the government to put more efforts into planting trees in the open area of a city instead of building more houses. To voice my opinion，city dwellers will benefit more from the improvement of the city environment, although the value of new construction cannot be underestimated.

　　The first convincing argument why beautifying the city is superior to the establishment of new houses is that a cleaner and healthier city environment can provide city residents with a better living space，which would be conducive to one’s health. For example, in my city, increasing number of trees have been planting per year, thus, many of us can breathe the fresh air and enjoy the closeness to nature, many senior citizens enjoy taking a stroll in a woods around South Lake. Therefore, the multiplication of new plants has greatly decreased the possibility of infecting respiratory diseases.

　　Here is a good example providing strong support to my stand. Why environmental protection is much more important in comparison with economic development is that eco-friendly policies will benefit a city or a nation in the long run. The issue reminds me of a clean and beautiful city Dalian, which is embraced by a rich variety of green trees or plants. As the former mayor said, Dalian will never develop economy at the cost of hurting the environment. Much to our encouragement, eco-friendly environment attract more business men and enterprises to make huge investment in this eco-friendly city.

　　Indeed，I have to concede that in some metropolitan cities in the world , it is irrational and unfeasible to expect the local governments to give priority to planting trees. By contrast，in order to ease the pressure of housing shortage，proper land resources should be allocated the construction of new infrastructure or commercial buildings. However, I want to rebut that it is more viable for most cities to attach importance to the amelioration of the environment.

　　In a nutshell, I re-affirm my view that planting more trees is clearly a worthwhile endeavor helping to protect the environment.
