"It was only after careful consideration that we gave Yang Ming a warning," a council member said. "Getting enough sleep is important for people's health and after so many complaints we had to take action." Study or Sleep? A recent newspaper article on drummer Yang Ming has caused outrage from teenage fans who can't believe that loss of sleep is a reason for complaint. Not only has the newspaper received calls from angry students, letters of petition have been sent to the local council! This has concerned teachers and parents alike and has led to a call for information on the importance of sleep, especially with regard to studying. Please help me welcome our participants on today's show,Mao Wen, a prominent sleep expert, and Li Mei, a professor of education. Thank you,it's great to be here today. Let me start off by saying that sleep is vital to our well-being and health. Rarely are people getting enough sleep however. Research shows that about 40 percent of the population regularly feel tired during the day! Most people need at least 8 hours of sleep every night, and lack of sleep can seriously affect concentration and memory. It also causes irritability and lowers the immune system.
