Two people have just arrived at the hospital,each with a child.
A nurse is asking them questions.
Part One A:Can I help you?
B:Yes,I wonder if you could look at Henry's leg?
A:What's the matter with it?
B:He was bitten by a dog yesterday evening and it was bleeding quite badly.
A:Let's have a look at it then.I see...
What did you do before bringing him here?
B:I washed the wound under a running water for a few minutes,
then I dried it with a cleaning cloth and
tied another piece of clean cloth around it.
A:Have you had any pain,does it hurt?
C:Yes,it does hurt a bit.
A:Was it your dog?
C:No,it belongs to a neighbour.
A:This is very important,the dog must be examined immediately.
B:Why is that? The dog is usually very friendly.
A:If the dog has a disease that makes it bite people,your son could die.
Part Two
A:Can I help you? B:Yes,this is my daughter,Jill.
She is two and half. She's drunk some ink.
A:Some ink? When did it happen? B:About half an hour ago.
A:Did you give her any first aid?
B:No,I didn't know what to do.
I thought it might be poison,so I brought her here at once.
A:Have you got the bottle with you? B:Yes,here it is.
A:Do you know how much she drank?
B:Well,the bottle was almost empty so I think not very much.
A:Right,I'll take you to the doctor.Come this way,please.

1.Imagine that you are a police officer
who has been asked to find out who caused a traffic accident.
Another police officer has interviewed some eyewitnesses
and given you a tape of the interviews.
Part 1 A:Johnson,come here please.I have a job for you.
B:Yes,sir.What happened?
A:There is a traffic accident on White Side.
A boy seems to have been hit by a car.
Three policemen are there already and their are two witnesses.
Please go down and see if you can find out exactly what happened
and who caused the accident.
B:Yes,sir.When did the accident happen?
A:About half past four.
B:And how many people were involved in the accident?
A:Only two as far as we know.
The boy was already sent to hospital with minor injuries.
B:Where are the other policemen?
A:They are by the intersection,on this side.
Part Two A:Miss,please tell me what happened?
B:I was on the eastern side of the crossing turning north.
Ahead of me in the bike lane was the poor boy
he was crossing the street to go the western side,
when that man just ran straight into him.Oh,it was awful.
A:Can you please tell me what the car was doing?
B:It was waiting to turn right.
A:I see,where was the boy?
B:He was standing the behind the white line in the bike lane.
Waiting for the light to turn.
A:Was he moving when the car hit him?
B:No,he was just standing there,poor boy,the car was moving much too fast,
and the driver didn't even look to see where he was going.
A:Sir,please tell me what happened?
C:Oh,it was terrible! I'm so sorry.It wasn't my fault.
A:We'll see about that later,please just tell me what just happened.
C:I was waiting on the eastern side,I was turning right,heading north.
I started turning right and suddenly,
this boy ran out in front of me on his bike,
I had no time to stop,there was nothing I could do.
A:Did you see the boy before you turn?
C:No,no.He must have been be riding too fast.
There was no one waiting to cross the street when I looked
A:How fast would you say you were going?
C:Oh,not very fast.
I stopped and it was just beginning the turn when I hit the boy.
Really,you know how boys are,they don't watch where they're going.
