【例】Christer Fuglesang, the first Swede to go into orbit, will undertake essential work on the space station.

【用】undertake后面可以接动词不定式，是“答应做…”的意思。

2.charitable adj.慈善的；宽厚的，慷慨的

【例】charitable donation.
慈善捐赠。
That is a charitable institution for the education of young children.

3.brief adj.简短的，简洁的；短哲的 n．概要，摘要，短文
【例】The book gives brief outline of the course of his research up till now.
这本书简要概括了他到目前为止所做的研究。(2004)
in brief : The chairman asked him to give the report in brief.
主席让他做一个简短的报告。
【用】in brief常用于连接两个句子，表示概括性总结，意为“简而言之”。

4.commit vt．犯（罪）；答应负责，承诺
【记】词根记忆：com+mit(送)--答应送--承诺
【例】Germany was due to strike a deal yesterday to close down its 19 nuclear power plants, making it the first major industrial nation to commit to withdrawing from nuclear energy.

【用】commit最常见的形式是commit crime(犯罪)。

5.abuse v．辱骂；滥用；虐待 n．辱骂；滥用；虐待；弊病，恶习
【记】联想记忆：ab(相反)+use（使用）--使用不当--滥用
