1.decay v．（使）腐败,（使）腐烂;（使）衰弱 n．腐烂，腐朽；衰退，衰败
【例】The doctor told me that my teeth were decayed.
医生说我长了虫牙。
The old tree was in decay.
那棵老树已经腐朽了。
【用】decay表示从完好健全的状态变弱，主要强调腐败衰弱的阶段。固定搭配右go to decay和fall into decay，意思是“腐朽，凋谢”。

2.postpone v.延期，延缓
【记】词根记忆：post(在后面)+pon(放)+e--放到后面--延期
【例】The sports game was postponed because of rain.
运动会因下雨而延期。
【辨】delay，postpone两个词都含“推迟，延期”的意思。delay指暂时停顿，稍后继续，或表示落后于进度，如：delay by the heavy traffic; postpone很正式，通常强调有意识延至将来某一具体时间，如：The meeting has been postponed to Tuesday.

3.incentive n.刺激，鼓励，推动力
【记】词根记忆：in+cent(唱)+ive--使人唱歌--刺激，鼓励
【例】There are not enough incentives for consumers to buy such products.
消费者没有足够的动机来购买这类产品。

4.extraordinary adj.非常的，特别的，破例的；离奇的，使人惊奇的，非凡的
【记】联想记忆：extra(以外)+ordinary（平常的）--平常之外的--非常的
【例】Euphemia is an extraordinary beauty.
尤菲米娅是一个绝色美女。

5.chatter v.喋喋不休；（鸟）啁啾,（松鼠等）吱吱叫；（溪流）潺潺作声：（机器）颤动；（牙齿）打战 n．喋喋不休；啁啾；震颤声
【记】联想记忆：chat(聊天)+ter--没完没了地聊天--喋喋不休
【例】The chatter of my classmates stopped me from listening attentively to the teacher.
同学们喋喋不休的话语让我不能专心听讲。
The sparrows are chattering in the trees.
麻雀在树上啾啾叫。
【用】谚语：Who chatters to you，will chatter of you.（来说是非者，必是是非之人。）

6.administer v．管理，主管；执行，施行；给予，用（药等）
【例】The former minister of education is appointed to administer this university.
前教育部部长被委任去管理这所大学。
【派】administration n.（行政）管理；政府]；administrative【adj.管理的；政府的；执行的）；administrator(n管理者；行政人员；执行者)

7.awake v．醒过来：醒悟，觉察，明白adj.醒着的
【记】联想记忆：a+wake(醒)--醒过来
【例】I would place the picture next to my bed so that it would be the first thing I saw when I awoke.
我会把这幅画挂在床边，这样我醒来第一眼就能看到它。
【用】词组be awake to表示“警觉，明白”的意思，如：be awake to the dangers of noise pollution。

8.succession n．继续，连续；连续的若干事物，一连串：继承，继承权
【记】词根记忆：suc(下)+cess(行走)+ion--走下去--继承
【例】It's not advisable to plant wheat in the same field for more than two years in succession.
连续两年在同一块地上种植小麦的做法不可取。
In this country，who is first in succession to the throne?
该是该国王位的第一继承人？
【用】表示“继承（王位、职位）”时succession后面接介词to。
