1.yeam vi.想念，思慕，渴望

【例】He yeamed for his home and family.他怀念故国家园。

【用】yeam为不及物动词，常与for搭配，表示“渴望…”。

2.hail v.向…欢呼;热情赞扬；高呼，招呼；下冰雹 n.欢呼；打招呼;(冰）雹

【例】I had to stay in my office for a long time because of the hail last night.

昨晚由于下冰雹我不得不在办公室待了很长一段时间。

//His new book is haiLed as a masterpiece.

他的新书被誉为杰作。

【用】hail与from组成固定搭配，表示“来自或发源于…”。

3.esteem vt.尊重，尊敬；认为，把…看作几尊重，尊敬

【例】I admire her abilities and esteem her character.

我钦佩她的能力，敬重她的人品。

【用】in one's esteem可看作固定搭配，表示“在…看来”。

4.chuclde v．轻声地笑，窃笑

【例】Peggy chuckles and sets to the task cheerfully.

佩姬略咯笑着，高兴地开始了她的任务。

【辨】chuckje，giggle

chuckle -般表示恬静地笑，通常是没有恶意的、轻松的笑； giggle指小孩发出压抑不住的笑，近乎傻笑，如：The children giggled at the clown's antics.

5.hardy adj.能吃苦耐劳的，强壮的：耐寒的

【记】联想记忆：hard(努力地，刻苦地)+y(…的)一能吃苦耐劳的

【例】Jane is a hardy girl and she teaches in the mountain place.

简是个能吃苦耐劳的姑娘，她在山里教书。

6.adequate adj.适当的;充分的，足够的

【记】词根记忆：ad(袁加强)+equ（平等）+ate（…的）--比平等多的--充分的

【例】Even if you are only going on a trip to another country,accidents can happen. So please make sure you have adequate travel insurance.

7.resourceful adj.善于随机应变的，机敏的

【记】联想记忆：resource(办法)+ful--办法多的--机敏的

【例】Barton wasa delightful companion,resourceful and thoughtful of the interests and wishes of others.
巴顿是一个令人愉快的同伴，既机智又会为他人的兴趣和愿望着想。

8.cwoard n.怯懦：胆怯者

【记】联想记忆：co(表加强)+ward（向…，朝…）--向人多的地方跑--怯懦

【例】He was too much of a cowardto tell the rruth even to his closest friend.

他太懦弱了，以至于那个真相他连最好的朋友都不敢告诉。( 2001)

9.approach v．接近，靠近；与…接洽，与…交涉；处理，对付 n.靠近，接近：态度：方法

【例】The theories now prevailing take a quite different approach by emphasizing what liquids and gases have in common.
