Question: How did Robin hide his activities on the island?

I was hiding my activity on the island as much as possible. I was very careful. I tried not to be loud. I was worried when I made a fire. But I needed fire because I needed to cook. So when I made a fire, I tried to make as little smoke as possible. Smoke could go very high and it could be seen from a distance.

我尽可能地隐藏我在岛上的活动。我很小心。我试着不发出大的声音。生火的时候我很担心。但是我需要火因为我得做吃的。所以，当我生火时，我尽可能让烟少一点。烟能升得很高，远处就能看见。

Once I discovered a small cave in the forest near the beach. I went inside, but when my eyes were OK with the dark, I saw two eyes which were looking at me. I jumped outside. I was scared to death. I waited but nothing happened. I went slowly to the beginning of the cave and I listened. I heard something. It sounded as if there was somebody injured inside. I took my gun and I entered the cave slowly.

有一次我发现海滩附近的森林里有一个小洞穴。我走了进去，但是当我的眼睛能看清黑暗时，我看见两只眼睛在看着我。我跳了出来。我吓死了。我等着，但什么也没发生。我慢慢地走到洞口处，听声音。我听到了一些声音。似乎是里面有人受伤了。我拿起我的枪，慢慢走进洞穴。

When my eyes could see again, I discovered an old goat. It was dying in the cave. I returned to the cave the next day.

当我的眼睛又能看见时，我发现了一只老山羊。它在洞穴里快要死了。第二天，我回到洞穴。

Notes:

1. as ... as possible: 尽可能，如as much as possible即“尽可能多，越多越好”，as soon as possible即“尽可能快，越快越好”。

2. distance: n. /?d?st?ns/ 距离，间距，at/from a ?distance即“从远处”。

3. to death: 到极点，如scared to death表示“吓死了”，laugh oneself to death表示“笑死了”等。

4. as if: 好像，后面接从句，也可以用as though。
