So what's an idiom?
那么什么是习语呢?
Idioms are English expressions that are quite unique because the meaning of the expression is different to the individual meaning of each word.
习语是非常独特的英语表达方式,因为表达的意思与每个单词的意思不同uMnszM~9&=sN0bR
Now, idioms exist in lots of different languages
现在,习语存在于许多不同的语言中,
but the reason that they can be so difficult to understand and also to learn to use is because of the different meaning that you need to understand.
但它们如此难以理解和学习使用的原因是因为你需要理解的意思不同h@[PB|H27x8_
It's also because most of the time
这也是因为大多数时候,
when you're trying to learn these idioms you're looking in a book
当你试图学习这些习语的时候,你从书上找,
or you're looking on a website that has a list of hundreds and hundreds of idioms and you just end up getting frustrated and confused.
或者你从网站上找,那里有成百上千的习语,你最后会感到沮丧和困惑9nVwG&Cn&txs&q4WMVw
Some of them I haven't even heard of before!
有些我以前甚至没听说过!
The secret to learning English idioms is to focus on idioms that are relevant and that are often used in everyday conversation.
学习英语习语的秘诀是专注于与日常会话相关的习语HpgPeqvI43&%3B=U&RJ
Like everything, idioms come in and out of fashion.
和其他事物一样,习语也时兴时衰NA6uxBrW)0)GsImO3]pF
Sometimes they're popular.
有时很受欢迎jzweAitE8#3o4lP
Sometimes they're not, they're really daggy.
有时不受欢迎,会很过时GCAjCe**1^Z%O2Pg5_d
and no-one uses them anymore.
没有人再使用它们了QQwZS=La%hVK
It depends on who you are, where you are, your age and the people that you hang out with.
这取决于你是谁,你在哪里,你的年龄和你周围的人-TS|+k-mrZOCWC
Idioms are quite unique like that but there are a group of really common idioms that are used across native speaking countries
习语是非常独特的,但是有一组非常常见的习语是在母语国家使用的
And to make it easier for you, I've chosen all of the idioms that I teach in these lessons specifically because they are currently in use.
为了让你们更容易理解,我选择了我在这些课程中所教授的这些习语,因为目前都在被高频使用,47z7pVb1n.50d9p
They are used every day.
它们每天都被使用ZI;BX9~7)Yob
I hear them all the time!
我总是听到它们!

So you can feel confident that they're worth learning and it's worth spending your time on these idioms.
所以你可以自信地认为它们值得学习,值得你花时间在这些习语上CPRbD0Ct8B=Na&+wk
So, don't get your knickers in a twist!
所以,不要紧张!
Don't get upset!
不要生气!
I'm going to teach you a few really common English idioms right here, right now in this lesson.
在这节课中,我要教你几个非常常见的英语习语bFOWGlR@r1
Let's get going!
让我们开始吧!
When I say the word 'weather', what kinds of ideas come into your head?
当我说“天气”这个词的时候,你会想到什么?
I think of sunshine, rain, clouds, storms, lightning, thunder, wind, all sorts of words!
我想到了阳光、雨、云、风暴、闪电、雷声、风,各种各样的词!
And all of the idioms that I'm going to teach you today use weather words in some way.
今天我要教你们的所有习语都在某种程度上使用了天气词汇E-f3x[2bgd.n
OK the first one!
好的,第一个!
'Under the weather' To feel 'under the weather'.
Under the weather表示感觉身体不舒服Akg1[hBeMn*loi8Y6^
Now if you feel under the weather, you're not feeling very well at all, you might be sick, like you might have a cold or something like that.
如果你感觉不舒服,你感觉一点也不好,你可能生病了,你可能感冒了或者类似的症状Q^LvvQ4izfw+
You feel not as healthy as you usually do.
你感觉不像平时那么健康R8))o||c0XOYSrDQ
For example, “I said that I'd meet my friends for dinner tonight but I'm feeling a bit under the weather so I don't think I'll go”
例如,“我说我今晚要和朋友们一起吃晚饭,但是我感觉有点不舒服,所以我想我还是不去了;4=AhZl39pqg^Fu。”
Or, “You look a bit under the weather today.
或,“你今天看起来有点不舒服HfIb1[(w|U68r^@;Oxv。”
Are you feeling OK?”
你还好吗?”
The second one.
第二个Cf3sPugHIFf
'When it rains, it pours'.
"祸不单行"EM[2~mAnUm=~2.
So this idiom is used when something goes wrong and a whole bunch of things go wrong at the same time.
所以这个习语是用来形容一件事出了问题,同时很多事情都出了问题2AGYV~V;1K#bd*jh3z
THAT is the time to use this idiom!
是时候使用这个习语了!
So, think about this situation.

你有三个项目要在今天结束前完成,而你的同事刚刚打电话来请病假,说他们今天不来上班了5U5S~-)T0Mb
So they're not going to help you complete the reports.
所以他们不会帮你完成报告qA&[drEIN*fA#9C&~h=
And the power has just gone off in your building which means you don't, you're not able to use your computer.
你所在的大楼停电了,这意味着你不能使用电脑X+MEI1L91+QLLgW
So you decide to take your laptop and go to the local library and work there.
所以你决定带着你的笔记本电脑去当地的图书馆工作vk,I%=,i@O-0.;=I|A
So you go downstairs and you go back to your car and you suddenly realize that you've locked your keys inside the car!
所以你下楼回到你的车里,你突然意识到你把钥匙锁在车里了!
'When it rains, it pours' This is the perfect example of 'When it rains, it pours'.
" When it rains, it pours "这是" When it rains, it pour "的完美例子YCJiYfT-M)5Sk
Lots of things went wrong at the same time, so the problem felt even bigger than it really was.
许多事情同时出错,所以问题比实际情况更严重aWqaiT;+Net
Number three!
第三个!
'Every cloud has a silver lining'
“Every cloud has a silver lining”
OK so your friend is having some problems,
你的朋友遇到了一些问题,
maybe they lost their job or their boyfriend broke up with them, or their girlfriend.
可能他们丢了工作,或者他们的男朋友或女朋友和他们分手了.V!9EX^D;%)16W
You can use this idiom to help comfort them, to help make them feel better.
你可以用这个习语来安慰他们,让他们感觉更好!HtO6ySe1J[
It means that it's possible to find a positive in a negative situation, - no matter how difficult or how painful it might feel at the time.
意思是在消极的情况下也有可能找到积极的一面,不管当时有多困难或多痛苦r;!0QY233S

'To get wind of something'.
听到...的风声
'To get wind of something' means to hear about something or to learn about something, mostly when what you hear is actually supposed to be a secret.
“To get wind of something”的意思是听说某事或了解某事,通常情况下,你听到的应该是一个秘密fP-(4Iw_xs-rcP
For example, your colleague might say, “Did you hear the rumours about our CEO resigning?!”
例如,你的同事可能会说:“你听到关于我们CEO辞职的传言了吗?!”
It means he quit his job and you might say,
这意味着他辞职了,你可能会说:
“Yeah! I did get wind of that yesterday!
“是啊!我昨天确实听到风声了!
Do you think the rumours are true?”
你认为谣言是真的吗?”
'Come rain or shine' If I say that I'll be at a place 'come rain or shine', it means that I will definitely be there, no matter what!
如果我说“”,意思是我一定会在那里,不管发生什么事!
For example, my cousin said to me, “Are you coming to my birthday party on Saturday night?”
例如,我的表弟对我说,“你周六晚上来参加我的生日派对吗?”
And I told her “Of course I am!
我告诉她“当然会去!
Come rain or shine, I'll be there, don't worry!”
不论晴雨,我都会去的,别担心!”
So rain represents bad weather and shine represents the sun, really good weather, nice weather.
雨代表坏天气,阳光代表太阳,非常好的天气.p.sM=l*_NIbkbyou5
So the idiom suggests that it doesn't matter if it's raining or if it's shining with sun, you will be there no matter what the weather!
所以这个习语的意思是不管下雨还是晴天,不管什么天气你都会去!
'To have your head in the clouds'

他们被困在自己的脑袋里,他们在思考自己的想法,自己的想法,自己的梦想,自己的幻想n075vGVqZL
Perhaps like a daydream.
也许像一个白日梦rhinhGVok92GW

如闪电般快的
Now 'lightning fast' just means really, really super fast
“lightning fast”的意思是非常非常快,
and it can be used with either time that moves quickly or the speed of something that physically moves quickly.
它既可以用于表示时间移动得很快,也可以表示物体移动得很快TgG!pJFgnSWd8*kU

It was lightning fast!”
闪电一样快!”

“我简直不敢相信你这么早就离开了房间!

我甚至还没读完第二页!”
To take a raincheck' Now this idiom means that you would like to accept an offer from someone
这个习语的意思是你愿意接受别人的邀请
but you can't do it right now and you want to accept the offer at a later time.
但是你现在不能这么做,你想在以后的某个时候接受这份工作DCTadVm.2A
So for example, if your friend said to you “I've got two spare tickets to the football match tonight.
例如,如果你的朋友对你说:“我有两张今晚足球比赛的多余票],Mw+t(-vAf+6y4DYvD*。”
Do you want to come?”
你想来吗?”
And I'd say “Yeah, that sounds awesome!
我会说:“是的,听起来很棒!
But it's my grandfather's birthday tonight.
但今晚是我爷爷的生日Z6p2&mUX]GVisLGaIv*

and it feels so warm on your skin, you feel so happy?
你的皮肤感觉很温暖,你感觉很开心吗?
This is where this idiom comes from.
这就是这个习语的由来S]l|bnPc_l+xgPT)+p
Something that 'brightens up your day' makes you feel really positive and happy.
“brightens up your day”的东西会让你感到积极和快乐oehcuGrEUiyuD|JUgH
For example, you run into an old friend on the street who you haven't seen in years.
例如,你在街上碰到一个多年不见的老朋友7&Q@WeQDB_4#!N]2i
That would brighten up your day!
那会让你的一天充满阳光!

或者,如果你生病住院,有个好朋友来看你,那就会“让你心情愉悦”Wh8G4y)6A7gc+S2AH
You'd say “Thanks for visiting!
你会说“谢谢你的来访!”
You really brightened up my day!”
