She came to the U.S. as a refugee from Kosovo 18 years ago.

Shabiu has empathy for the recent refugees.

For me, it's very easy to say,” Well, you know what?

Please do feel comfortable because I was in your shoes, you know.

So, I understand what you're going through."

Empathy means sharing and understanding others' feelings especially sadness.

感同身受是指分享并理解其他人的感受， 尤其是悲伤。

If you have empathy for others, it is because you have experienced the same feelings they have.
