Mysteries of vernacular: Noise.
通用俗语的谜团:Noise.
Any sound or combination of sounds.
Noise是指任何声音或声音的组合。
To understand the etymology of noise, we must begin with the Greek word 'naus', meaning ship.
为了弄清楚noise的词源,我们必须从希腊词汇naus开始,它的含义为帆船。
In Latin, naus born two new words,
在拉丁语中,naus衍生出了两个新单词,
navis, which also refers to a single ship, and in turn gave rise to words like naval and navigate.
一个是navis,也指的是一只单船,然后就出现了像naval和navigate这样的词汇。
And nausea, which meant quite literally ship sickness.
而另一个则是nausea,其字面意思是晕船。
Nausea's acceptance into English eventually took two forms.
nausea最终以两种形式融入了英语当中。

揭秘单词Noise的出处

The first in the 16th century, maintained its spelling and most of its meaning
第一种是在16世纪的时候,保留下了其原有的拼写及大致含义,
referring to all forms of stomach turbulence, ocean related or not.
指的是各种形式的胃部不适,这种不适可能与海洋有关,也可能无关。
The second addition to the English dictionary was a transmutation from Latin through old French.
第二种加入英语词典的形式,是从拉丁语到到古法语的一种变形。
As this transformation occurred, nauseas' meaning shifted to encompass a more general sense to discomfort, and its spelling changed to 'nois'.
随着这种演变的发生,nauseas的含义转变为一种更普遍的不适感,而其拼写也变为了nois。
From this, of course, comes the modern word 'noise',
之后,这个词又变成了现代词汇noise,
which was gradually modified from a definition associated with discomfort into one denoting an undesirable sound.
定义也逐渐从不适感转变为表示一种不受欢迎的声音。
Eventually becoming an umbrella term for everything auditory, upsetting or not.
最终成为了一个指所有听觉的涵盖性术语,可能是那种令人心烦的声音,也可能不是。
