Hi. I'm Rebecca from engVid, and this lesson will help you to write better letters.
嗨,我是来自engvid网站的Rebecca,今天这节课将帮助你们写出更好的信件。
Whether you need to write a letter for your IELTS exam, or at work, or in life in general,
无论你们是需要在雅思考试中写信,还是在工作或生活中需要写信,
this lesson will help you because we're going to focus on eight common letter-writing mistakes.
这节课都会对你们很有用,因为我们要来集中讲讲写信时经常会犯的八个错误。
Okay? Let's see if you know what they are, and also how to correct them. Okay.
我们来看看你们是否知道这些错误都是什么,以及如何纠正它们,好吗?
Number one: "I look forward to see you.", "I look forward to see you."
第一个错误:"I look forward to see you"。
What's wrong with that? Well, this is a very common error, actually.
哪里出错了呢?其实这是个很常见的错误。
Most people don't realize that they're making it, but it's a really important thing to correct.
大多数人在犯这种错误时都还不自知,但纠正它非常重要。
So, it should be not: "I look forward to see you", but: "I look forward to seeing you.",
这个句子不应该是"I look forward to see you",而是"I look forward to seeing you",
"I look forward to seeing you.", "I look forward to meeting you.", "I look forward to discussing these ideas with you." Right?
或者说"I look forward to meeting you", "I look forward to discussing these ideas with you"。
Whatever verb you put here, you need to say it or write it with "ing", remember that. Okay.
无论后面接的是什么动词,你们都需要用动词"ing"的形式,记住。
Next, number two: "Tanks your letter." Okay?
下一点,第二个错误:"Tanks your letter"。

雅思32.png

This person has written: "Tanks your letter", now, the person actually wants to say: "Thanks",
这个人写的是"Tanks your letter",其实这个人真正想说的是“Thanks”,
but many people make a mistake, first of all, in the spelling of this word.
但是很多人会出错,首先就是在这个单词的拼写上。
It does have an "h" in it, so it should be: "Thanks", and then there's another mistake.
这里漏掉了"h",所以这个单词应该是"thanks",然后还有一个错误。
Right now it says: "Thanks your letter", but that's not correct, it should be: "Thanks..."what's the right preposition?
改完单词后这里写的是"Thanks your letter",但这还是不对的,它应该是"Thanks......"加哪个介词才对呢?
"Thanks", "Thanks for your letter." Okay? Or: "Thank you for your letter." Okay.
要加"for",所以可以写成"Thanks for your letter",或者"Thank you for your letter",知道了吗?
Next, number three: "Please to give my regard to Mr. Smith.", "Please to give my regard to Mr. Smith."
接下来,第三个错误:"Please to give my regard to Mr. Smith"。
Okay. There are two mistakes here, see if you can find them.
这里有两个错误,看看你们能不能找到。
Okay? So, the first one is right here, we don't say: "Please to give", "Please to write", "Please something".
第一个错误在这里,我们不说 "Please to give", "Please to write","please"后面不加"to"。
No. We just say: "Please give", "Please reply". Right?
不,我们只说"Please give","Please reply","please"后面直接加动词原形。
"Please respond", "Please ask", don't say: "to ask" or anything like that.
比如"Please respond","Please ask",反正不要在动词前面加"to"。
"Please give my regard" is not right, it should be "regards", "Please give my regards to Mr. Smith." All right?
"Please give my regard"也不对,应该是"regards",所以这个句子的正确形式应该是:"Please give my regards to Mr. Smith"。
We can't say "regard" just like that without the "s", so make sure you add an "s" there.
我们不能像那样不加"s"直接用"regard",所以确保你们在那里加上了"s"。
Number four: "I am interesting your products.", "I am interesting your products."
第四个错误:"I am interesting your products"。
That's not right, we need to say what? Can you find the mistake?
那是不对的,我们需要怎么说呢?你们能找出错误在哪里吗?
Here, "I am interested", okay? "I am interested", "your products are interesting".
这里,应该是"I am interested",或者说"your products are interesting"。
So the thing you're talking about is with the "ing".
所以形容事物时应该用"ing"形式的形容词。
"The product is interesting", "The book is interesting", "The movie is interesting".
比如"The product is interesting", "The book is interesting", "The movie is interesting"。
Okay? But when we talk about my feelings or somebody's feelings about that, we have to say that with the "ed".
但是当我们谈到自己的感受或别人对此的感受时,我们必须用"ed"形式的形容词。
"I am interested", "I am excited", okay? Like that.
比如"I am interested", "I am excited",知道了吗?就像这样。
But there's still one other small mistake now.
但是还有另一个小错误。
Now it says: "I am interested your products", so this part is right: "I am interested", but we need to have a preposition after that.
改完之后这个句子是"I am interested your products",所以"I am interested"这个部分是正确的,但是我们需要在这后面加上一个介词。
What is it? "I am interested in", "I am interested in your products." Okay? Good.
什么介词呢?"in",应该说"I am interested in your products",知道了吗?很好。
Number five: "When I will be in London, I'll call you." Okay? "When I will be in London, I'll call you."
第五个错误:"When I will be in London, I'll call you"。
In many languages, this would...this kind of structure would be correct, but in English, it's not,
在很多语言中,这种结构都是正确的,但是在英语中不是这样,
because there are really two parts to this sentence. Right?
因为这其实是一个句子的两个部分,对吧?
This one: "When I will be in London", and then the other part: "I'll call you".
"When I will be in London"是一个部分,然后"I'll call you"又是一部分。
So I'll help you to find the mistake by telling you that this part of the sentence is actually fine.
我告诉你们句子的这个部分实际上是没有问题的,借此帮助你们找到错误所在。
"I'll call you" is short for "I will call you", that's fine, but in this part of the sentence
"I'll call you"是"I will call you"的缩写,这没问题,但是句子的这个部分,
which has a conditional word-all right? -we do not put the future tense.
也就是以一个条件语开头的这部分,看到了吗?我们不会在这个部分使用将来时。
We write here, we use here, the present simple tense.
我们在这里使用一般现在时。
So, instead of saying: "When I will be in London", we say: "When I"...
所以我们应该说"When I am in London"
"When I am in London" or "When I'm in London, I'll call you." Okay?
或"When I'm in London, I'll call you",而不是"When I will be in London",知道了吗?
So when you have a sentence like that in the future and you're going to...you have two parts that have future in one section,
所以当你们遇到一个像那样表示将来的句子,要......你们要把它分成两个部分,一部分用将来时,
in the other section don't use the future tense, just use present simple, and it doesn't matter what the order is.
而另一部分不用将来时,只用一般现在时即可,而且顺序如何无关紧要。
It's the same principle if the sentence was: "I'll call you", right? "I'll call you when I'm in London."
如果句子顺序像"I'll call you when I'm in London"这样,原则也是一样的。
So even if we change the order, the principle stays the same.
所以即使我们改变了句序,原则也还是一样的。
Okay. Number six: "It was pleasure to meet you."
好了,第六个错误:"It was pleasure to meet you"。
This one's almost right, but not completely right. So, what's wrong here?
这个句子差点就对了,但不是完全正确。那么,错在哪儿呢?
It should be: "It was a pleasure". Okay? We need to have that article "a".
它应该是"It was a pleasure",知道了吗?我们需要加上冠词"a"。
"It was a pleasure to meet you.", "It was a pleasure to see you again." And so on.
可以说"It was a pleasure to meet you.", "It was a pleasure to see you again." 等等。
Number seven: "We must to inform the client.", "We must to inform the client."
第七个错误:"We must to inform the client"。
Well, that's wrong, in this case we don't have to add something; we need to take something out, what is it?
这是错误的,在这里有个东西是我们不必加上的,是需要我们拿掉的,它是什么呢?
We need to take out the word "to", so, after a modal like that, "must", we can't use "to".
我们需要把"to"这个词拿掉,也就是在像"must"这样的情态动词后面,我们不能用"to"。
Not: "We must to inform", just: "We must inform the client.", "We should inform the client.", "We could inform the client."
不能说"We must to inform",直接说"We must inform the client.", "We should inform the client.", "We could inform the client."
All those kind of words-right? -"could", "should", "must", we don't need to say "to", so just: "We must inform the client." Good.
所有那些词,"could", "should", "must"后面我们都不需要说"to",直接说:"We must inform the client.",很好。
And the last one, look at it carefully, it says: "Yours sincerly," the words are right, but there is still a mistake there.
最后一个错误,仔细看,这里写的是"Yours sincerly",选择的单词是对的,但还是有一个错误。
Can you find the mistake? "Yours sincerly," this word is one of the most misspelled words in the English language.
你们能找到错误吗?"Yours sincerly"这个词是英语中最常被写错的单词之一。
So, I hope you're not making that mistake.
所以我希望你们不会犯这个错误。
So the correct spelling of "sincerely" is...okay?
这个单词正确的拼写是“sincerely”......知道了吗?
Sincere, just like the word "sincere" has an "e" at the end, keep that "e" when you add "ly". Okay? "S-i-n-c-e-r-e-l-y".
就像"sincere"这个单词末尾有个"e"一样,加上"ly"的时候注意保留那个"e",知道了吗?它的拼写是"S-i-n-c-e-r-e-l-y"。
Many people leave out the "e". All right?
很多人会把"e"去掉。
So make sure you're not one of them, especially if you sign your letters saying: "Sincerely,"
所以请确保你们不是他们中一员,尤其是你们在信上署名写"Sincerely"
or: "Yours sincerely," which is a very common way to end a general letter or a general business letter. Okay?
或 "Yours sincerely"的时候,这是结束一封常规信件或一封普通的商务信函的非常常见的方式。
So make sure that you are not making these very common mistakes.
所以请确保你们不会犯这些非常常见的错误。
If you want to make sure that you understand this...these mistakes really well and that you don't make them,
