“蛮王柯南”的形象源自罗伯特·霍华德1932年创作的漫画，迄今为止，已有多部电影、电视剧、电脑游戏改编这个题材。1982年，现任美国加州州长的阿诺·施瓦辛格出演电影版《野蛮人柯南》，取得了不俗的票房成绩。1984年，施瓦辛格再次出演续集影片《毁灭者柯南》。这两部影片也曾在中国地方电视台反复放映，其暴力和暴露程度，让当时的中国观众大为惊奇。
