BEIJING - The Palace Museum apologized late Friday for oversight that made possible the car driving by a woman inside the Forbidden City, according to its official Weibo account.

北京消息：周五晚间，故宫在官方微博上发表声明，就因疏忽而让一名女子开车进入故宫一事进行道歉。

Palace Museum和Forbidden City都指故宫。
1月17日下午，网友@露小宝LL 晒出了一组照片，照片显示，两名女子开着一辆黑色奔驰大G越野车（off-road vehicle）堂而皇之地停在了故宫太和门（the Gate of Supreme Harmony）前的广场上。由于当天是闭馆日（closure day），因此这起事件引发了网友的愤怒。
一些网友要求对此事件进行进一步调查（demanded further investigations into the incident），并详细解释如何允许人们开车进入故宫博物院，而其他人则对未能保护世界文化遗产（protect the site of the world cultural heritage）这一点感到失望（disappointment）。
早在2013年，故宫博物院前院长（curator）单霁翔提议“今后来故宫博物院参观的来宾车队和相关机动车辆，不再穿行故宫博物院开放区域。”对于禁车（car-driving ban）原因，单霁翔曾表示，英国白金汉宫（Buckingham Palace）、法国凡尔赛宫（Versailles Palace）均不允许车辆穿行（car driving was forbidden），“这是一个文化尊严（cultural dignity）的问题。”
时任法国总统奥朗德于2013年4月26日携女友参观故宫时，单霁翔关闭午门（Meridian Gate），不让总统车队（motorcade）进入。最终，让法国总统在故宫午门前下车步行进入（get off his car and got inside on foot）。
2020年是故宫建成600年（the 600th anniversary of the Forbidden City）、故宫博物院成立95周年（the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the Palace Museum）。
