And this whopping 1.28-kilogram or almost 3-pound truffle was recently unearthed - the largest of its kind found in Hungary to date. It was dug up in this forest where Istvan Bagi and his labrador, Mokka are searching for the coveted fungus."Truffleminers", the company Bagi jointly owns, rents 300 hectares of woodland where they hunt for truffles from mid-June until December.

Surveillance video captures the moment a plane carrying prominent Brazilian presidential hopeful Eduardo Campos crashes and bursts into flames. The plane carrying Campos and his entourage crashed on August 13. All seven people on board were killed. Campos, the Brazilian Socialist Party leader, was running third in the polls as Brazil's presidential campaign was beginning to gain momentum. His death prompted Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff to cancel her campaign for three days to mourn his death. Tens of thousands turned out for his funeral in the city of Recife. Officials blame the crash on poor weather, although the plane had electrical problems in the past.

Genetically modified mosquitoes to combat dengue in Brazil
基因改造蚊子帮助巴西抵抗登革热

)M46S.XDN;

For humans - these are the deadliest creatures on Earth. Mosquito-born illnesses kill more people each year than all other animals combined. And dengue fever, which effects tens of millions of people each year is seemingly out of control in Brazil - which has seen cases of the potentially deadly virus increase 30 fold over the past 50 years. But now, scientists from UK-based biotech firm Oxitec say they have solution. Researcher Sofia Bastos Pinto and her team are genetically modifying millions of male mosquitoes whose sole purpose is to kill their own kind until the entire population is wiped out. (SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) GENETICIST AND SUPERVISOR OR PRODUCTION, SOFIA BASTOS PINTO, SAYING: "What we do is release males into the environment so they can mate with the females. The sperm of our male enters the egg and transmits the gene to all of his descendants, this first line of descendants will inherit this gene, and then will die." These transgenic insects carry a gene programmed to kill their offspring before they reach maturity... meaning they will never reproduce. And if the insects can't reproduce, Bastos says the entire population dies out. In a recent trial, the process reduced a local population of dengue mosquitoes by 96 percent. Bastos and her team are now starting to produce genetically modified mosquitoes at a lab in Campinas, Brazil, a town where 40,000 cases of dengue have already been reported just this year. Oxitec says the genetically modified bugs pose no risk to humans and the process of releasing millions of them into the environment is safe. They are now awaiting government approval to start the process on a larger scale. Bastos says that may take some time. (SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) GENETICIST AND SUPERVISOR OR PRODUCTION, SOFIA BASTOS PINTO, SAYING: "We know we are in the process, but it is a new thing, it is the first transgenic insect in the world which will be approved to be used for commercial purposes. So, it takes awhile to be resolved." Bastos says that if killer-gene-carrying mosquitoes prove effective on a large scale combating dengue, they could also prove successful in tackling malaria and other vector born diseases.

The President Speaks on Iraq and Ferguson
奥巴马就密苏里抗议活动发表讲话

TN3Z0gI|uRf

This afternoon at the White House, President Obama delivered a statement on the latest developments in Iraq and in Ferguson, Missouri — two issues he has been following closely each day.

^HG2bF4EFm

First, the President relayed to the nation that the American operation in Iraq has effectively protected our personnel in Erbil by stopping the terrorist group ISIL from advancing on the city of Erbil, and by helping Iraqi forces to recapture the largest dam in Iraq:

]q8_5LjB=JQR7-

The Mosul dam fell under terrorist control earlier this month, and is directly tied to our objective of protecting Americans in Iraq. If the dam was breached, it could have proven catastrophic -- with floods that would threaten the lives of thousands of civilians, and endanger our Embassy compound in Baghdad. Iraqi and Kurdish forces took the lead on the ground, and performed with courage and determination. So this operation demonstrates that Iraqi and Kurdish forces are capable of working together and taking the fight to ISIL. If they continue to do so, they will have the strong support of the United States of America.

R0cy[,-QEE~(9CLSEu2K

President Obama also noted that the U.S. is building an international coalition to address the humanitarian crisis in northern Iraq:

H@*L;wVG]!i

Even as we've worked to help many thousands of Yezidis escape the siege of Mount Sinjar, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been displaced by ISIL’s violence and many more are still at risk. Going forward, the United States will work with the Iraqi government – as well as partners like the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Italy, and Australia – to get food and water to people in need, and to bring long-term relief to people who have been driven from their homes.

@diokLF6JBIL,Ta(

The long-term strategy against ISIL requires an inclusive Iraqi government that can unite all of Iraq’s communities against ISIL’s terrorism. The President outlined the “historic progress” Iraq has made toward this goal and the work that remains:

G;DP^-kw,Ua)(J-XuwV

Over the last week, we saw historic progress as Iraqis named a new Prime Minister-designate - Haider al-Abadi, and Iraq’s outgoing Prime Minister Maliki agreed to step down. This peaceful transition of power will mark a major milestone in Iraq’s political development. But, as I think we are all aware, the work isn’t done. Over the next few weeks, Dr. Abadi needs to complete the work of forming a new, broad-based, inclusive Iraqi government -- one that develops a national program to address the interests of all Iraqis. Without that progress, extremists like ISIL can continue to prey upon Iraq’s divisions. With that new government in place, Iraqis will be able to unite the country against the threat from ISIL, and they will be able to look forward to increased support, not just from the United States, but other countries in the region and around the world.

#k0%QI!v=K|9

"There should be no doubt that the United States military will continue to carry out the limited missions that I have authorized: protecting our personnel and facilities in Iraq — in both Erbil and Baghdad; and providing humanitarian support, as we did on Mount Sinjar," he said.

hL-bC(ovSJ8gfaM4x-#A

After meeting with Attorney General Eric Holder this afternoon, President Obama also provided an update on the situation in Ferguson, Missouri and the federal investigation into the tragic death of 18-year-old Michael Brown:

K!3,FCkJrVTsBB-3^

The Department of Justice has opened an independent, federal civil rights investigation into the death of Michael Brown. They are on the ground and, along with the FBI, they are devoting substantial resources to that investigation. The Attorney General himself will be traveling to Ferguson on Wednesday to meet with the FBI agents and DOJ personnel conducting the federal criminal investigation and he will receive an update from them on their progress. He will also be meeting with other leaders in the community whose support is so critical to maintaining the peace and calm in Ferguson.

-*u4M2!;W]q98bt(

Ronald Davis, the director of the DOJ’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services – or COPS – is also traveling to Ferguson tomorrow to work with police officials on the ground. We’ve also had experts from the DOJ’s Community Relations Service working in Ferguson since the days after the shooting to foster conversations among local stakeholders and reduce tensions among the community.

faAmpKdyLZPh_Okk

The President closed by speaking to "a community in Ferguson that is rightfully hurting and looking for answers":

VOKOArfRY@a^ByLM

As Americans, we've got to use this moment to seek out the shared humanity laid bare by this moment -- the potential of a young man and the sorrows of parents, the frustrations of a community; the ideals we hold as one united American family.

[DXm=0nMmZ2W,kF

I've said this before, in too many communities around the country, a gulf of mistrust exists between local residents and law enforcement. In too many communities, too many young men of color are left behind and seen only objects of fear. Through initiatives like My Brother’s Keeper, I’m personally committed to changing both perception and reality. And already we’re making some significant progress as people of good will of all races are ready to chip in. But that requires that we build, and not tear down. And that requires that we listen, and not just shout. That’s how we’re going to move forward together. By trying to unite each other and understand each other, and not simply divide ourselves from one another. We are going to have to hold tight to those values in the days ahead. That’s how we bring together justice and that’s how we bring about peace.
