MERS infections keep rising
The number of South Koreans diagnosed with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) rose to 35, as five more cases were confirmed on Thursday.
Two people have died, and one more death has been reportedly found due to MERS infection, but the final confirmation had yet to be made by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
South Korean President Park Geun-hye said on Wednesday that everything must be done to stop MERS, as fear of the disease shut 800 schools. South Korea has quarantined more than 1,600 people for possible MERS infection.
Media in the region have reported tourists cancelling visits to South Korea and Korean people wearing masks as a precaution against the MERS virus.
