本剧主要讲述住在纽约长岛的西佛一家的日常生活故事，是中国大陆较早引进的国外情景喜剧，在中国从1990年一直播出至1994年。1990年代初期一经播出就引发了收视高潮，片中迈克开朗调皮的形象为广大观众所喜爱。而剧中西佛医生对子女采取启发式教育的方式，也让观众得到启示。

Mike: Hiya dad...mom. You look good tonight. You look young!
你们好啊，老爸老妈。二老今晚气色真不错，看上去好年轻啊。

prisoner: Come on son.
得了吧，小子。

Mike: Mom, dad, this is Jerry. I guess it's kind of hard to see the basis of our friendship, huh?

Jason: I dunno, he has a certain...care free charm.

Mike: Two months!?! Dad can't you talk to her?

Jason: Oh I did Mike. Originally it was one month.

Mike: That means you added a month.

Ben: Nothing gets by you,does it?

care free charm：对什么都不关心的态度的魅力。Jason这句话有些讽刺的意味。

Nothing gets by you：你真是什么都知道（什么都瞒不过你）这是Ben挖苦Mike的话。

get by: 通过， 经过， 混过， 勉强过活

1) I have no formal clothes for the occasion. Perhaps I can get by in a dark suit?
我没有适合那种场合的礼服，也许穿深色西服还行吧？

2) I hope I can get by in a dark suit for this formal occasion.
我希望我能穿一件深色的衣服把这个正式场合应付过去。
