Wyclef Jean 1972年出生于加勒比岛国海地，9岁的时候移民美国，之后定居于新泽西州，在那里开始了 Wyclef Jean是Hip Hip历史上最著名、最重要的团体之一Fugees的领导者,他也是第一个离开团队做个人 发展的团员。
　　高中的时候他就和好友Prakazrel Michel以及同学Lauryn Hill组建了自己的音乐组合。当初他们管自己 叫Tranzlator Crew,后来才改名为The Fugees.之后他们和Ruffhouse唱片签约，1993年发行了首张专辑 Blunted On Reality,但是这张专辑的成绩相当的差，但是他们没有气馁，第二张专辑The Score全球发行超过1700万张，也成为了嘻哈音乐史上一张伟大的专辑。
　　The Carnival是Wyclef单飞后的个人首张专辑，专辑全名是Wyclef Jean Presents the Carnival Featuring the Refugee Allstars,这是一张比Fugees的经典专辑The Score更具备音乐热情的作品。其中 Wyclef Jean邀请倒包括Fugees的其余两名成员，以及古巴传奇人物Celia Cruz、新奥尔良Funk团队the Neville Brothers、Bob Marley的女声 the I Threes等。其中一首Gone Till November更有纽约 Philharmonic管弦乐团助阵，令这首歌获得当年的格莱美提名；而另一首着名单曲We Trying to Stay Alive则是Wyclef Jean将Bee Gees乐团的名曲翻玩成了一首街头圣歌,在这些单曲的推动下，专辑获得了三白金的销量，也得到了评论界的好评。
