80年代的美國樂壇中,出現了三位富有影響力的歌手,就是Michael Jackson,Madonna 以及今次介紹的 Prince.就創作才華而論,Prince是三位當中最高的 ,最巧合的是,三位都是同一年誕生(1958), 三位巨星對流行音樂有着很大的影響.至於 Prince ,他的音樂橫跨多種風格，其中包括了 R&B, funk, rock, pop, soul, New Wave, hip hop, jazz, blues, classical music。他被廣泛認作是一名音樂天才，並定義了「Minneapolis sound」。他還因用化名創作過成百上千首未發表的歌曲而出名,由於是位完美主義者，並對自己的音樂嚴加保護，他一人包辦了多數歌曲的寫作、作曲和製作，並在專輯中演奏了多數的樂器。他也為其他藝人創作歌曲，其中的一些作品也曾在排行榜上奪過冠軍(例如 Sinead O'Connor 名曲 Nothing Compares 2 U 就是出自他本人作的)。
