Employees at an art school in Northwest China have been accused of spraying pepper spray at a crowd of students who had scrambled to retrieve their mobiles after taking an exam.
日前，中国西北某艺术院校的工作人员，在学生们参加完考试后争相取手机时向他们喷射辣椒水，因此备受指责。
A number of students sitting the entrance exam at the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts suffered from respiratory and eye irritation last Sunday.
上周日，许多参加西安美术学院入学考试的学生都因被喷辣椒水而呼吸道和眼睛发炎。
According to reports, school security released pepper spray as students crowded the exit of the test site to get back their phones, which they were required to check in before the exam began.
据报道，学校保安向学生喷辣椒水是因为学生一窝蜂冲向考试点出口取手机，在考试开始前该校曾统一收取学生手机。

"Students are not rioters, how could they be treated this way?" a father surnamed Pei, whose daughter was treated for pepper spray exposure.

School officials claimed the crowd had gotten out of hand and security guards used pepper spray out of fear for the students' safety.

Students said the crowding began over confusion about how to reclaim their phones.

Some time during the check in, proctors had changed the system, making it slow and difficult for staff to find the phones, students said.

"I got my phone two hours after the exam ended," said a student surnamed Yang.
