A man died after being arrested in a prostitution sting in Changping district, Beijing, sparking an outcry over possible police malpractice.
近日，一名男子因涉嫌嫖娼在北京昌平区被警察逮捕后却突然身亡。随即此消息引发了群众对于警方的不当行为的强烈抗议。
In a statement posted on its official weibo account, the local police said they "sent a task force to raid a pedicure salon after receiving reports of its involvement in the sex trade" and arrested six alleged sex workers and customers.
据该警察局官方微博所发布的声明表示，当地警方在接到举报有人在一家足疗店进行性交易之后，立即派出专案组突袭现场，并逮捕了卖淫女子及嫖客共6名犯罪嫌疑人。
The statement continued by saying "a man surnamed Lei resisted law enforcement and intended to run away, the police took mandatory constraint measures on him. The man became ill on the way to the police station; he was rushed to the hospital but died after invalid rescue efforts."
该声明继续写道："有一名姓‘雷'的男子抗拒执法并试图逃跑，警察依法对其采取了强制性约束措施。后来在前往警察局的路上，该名男子突然感觉身体不适。警方立即将其送往医院，但经抢救无效而身死亡。"
The police said Changping People's Procuratorate has intervened in the investigation into the circumstances leading up to Lei's death.
警方表示，目前昌平人民检察院已经介入调查，寻求导致雷洋死亡的原因。

Lei Yang's family, however, questioned the police's version of the story.
然而，雷洋的家人却对警方的说法表示质疑。
His wife said the man left home around 21:00 to pick up a visiting relative at the airport and lost contact with them since then. The anxious family was not informed of his death until early morning the next day. Lei was already confirmed dead hours ago upon arrival at the hospital at 22:09, according to hospital records.
雷洋的妻子表示，自己的丈夫是在晚上9点钟左右离开家门去机场接亲戚，但之后就与家里失去了联系。焦急的家人是在雷洋死后第二天凌晨才接到的消息。根据医院记录显示，雷洋在被送往医院的当天晚上10:09分后不久就已经死亡了。
Lei's family also refuted the police's claim that he died of a heart attack, saying he was in perfect health and there is no history of heart disease in his family.

When the family questioned why several markings appeared in Lei's arms and head, the police explained it was because Lei fell on his head when jumping out of the police car, an answer disbelieved by the family, who saw no other visible bruises. They were forbidden to photograph the corpse as evidence.
