全国老龄委办公室日前宣布，以8月1日零时为标准时点，4万名调查员将进村入户，进行为期一个月的第四次中国城乡老年人生活状况抽样调查。本次调查由全国老龄办、民政部、财政部联合主办。

A national survey on China's aging population, the largest such effort of its kind, will start on Saturday, authorities announced on Tuesday.
有关部门周二宣布，中国将于周六启动最大规模的老龄国情调查。

【讲解】

aging population是老年人口。
全国老龄办前日在京表示，将对中国60岁以上的老年人口现状进行调查，老年人口总抽样比约为1‰（one-thousandth）。本次的数据将为解决中国人口迅速老龄化（rapidly aging population）问题提供依据。
本次调查问卷内容涵盖了养、医（medical care）、住（housing）、行、用、娱各方面，调查结果将切实反映新时期我国城乡老年人的生活状况（living conditions）和养老需求，为我国老龄事业发展“十三五”规划的制订提供依据（provide a basis）。
本次调查共有31个省（自治区（autonomous regions）、直辖市（municipalities））参与调查工作，样本（sample）量达到22.368万。
最新数据显示，截至2014年底，我国60岁以上老年人口（people at least 60 years old）已经达到2.12亿，占总人口（total population）的15.5%。失能半失能老年人口（lost part or all of their ability to take care of themselves）增长到3500万。
中国人口迅速老龄化引发了一系列问题，包括社会负担加重（a heavier social burden）、医疗费用猛增（soaring medical bills）等。
