Ukraine's government says a problem has occured at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in the country's south-east. The accident, reportedly caused by a short circuit, has reduced the country's power supply, worsening an already serious power shortage brought about by months of fighting between the government and Russian separatists.But Ukraine's Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn insists the malfunction does not pose a threat to public safety:

Netanyahu seeks early election, fires top ministers

Tuesday night, many Israelis were glued to their TV sets. In a prime time news conference, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he sacked his finance and justice ministers, announced plans to dissolve parliament, and opened the way for early national elections.

According to one of Machado's advisors, Caracas authorities have not ordered her immediate detention.

Hundreds of mourners packed a high school auditorium in the Australian town of Macksville ....and hundreds more gathered at a field outside... to pay their last respects to cricketer Philip Hughes. The star sportsman -- who would have been 26 on November 30th -- died last week of injuries suffered during a cricket match when he was hit in the neck by a ball. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott was one of the more-high profile guests at the funeral in New South Wales but most of the mourners were locals who came out to honor one of their own --someone who was remembered as a country boy at heart. In the eulogy his cousin recounted epic neighborhood cricket matches during their childhood, and Jason Hughes read a letter he had written to his younger brother. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PHILLIP'S BROTHER JASON HUGHES SAYING:
"All I ever wanted was for you to look up to me as your big brother. I still can't believe I am here saying my final goodbyes. Even though you are my little bro (brother) you have taught me so much. You have given me confidence, strength, you supported me and gave me a strong desire to succeed." The mourners struggled with the stifling heat in the packed hall. Australia captain Michael Clarke struggled with his emotions as he bid farewell to his teammate. (SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIA CAPTAIN MICHAEL CLARKE SAYING: "Phillip's spirit, which is now part of our game forever will act as a custodian of the sport we all love. We must listen to it, we must cherish it. We must learn from it. We must dig in, we must dig in and get through to tea. And we must play on. So, rest in peace my little brother. I will see you out in the middle." In addition to his brother, Hughes is survived by his parents and his younger sister.

Falling oil prices impact Chinese coal sector

China's coal companies are having a hard time selling their coal even as winter sets in. China’s National Coal Association says that’s because seven in 10 Chinese coal companies are losing money as supply far exceeds demand.
Coal producers say their main clients, namely concrete and steel factories, have already bought enough coal. Meanwhile, power companies used 15 percent less coal to generate electricity in October.
The China Electricity Council says factories have been using less electricity for production because of an economic slowdown. As a result, power companies have hit a three-year low in the amount of coal they use to generate electricity. That comes as coal companies continue to produce more coal than is needed.
Analysts say falling international oil prices are also weighing on Chinese coal chemical companies. Coal-to-liquid projects would suffer losses if international oil prices fall below 70 US dollars per barrel. The former director of the National Energy Administration Zhang Guotao says investments in coal chemicals should be cautious because the cost advantages have disappeared.
