Brazilians head to the polls Sunday in a bitterly-contested election. Final polls give incumbent Dilma Rousseff the edge as she seeks her second term leading Latin America's largest economy. Her Workers' Party has held power for 12 years -- leveraging an economic boom to expand social programs that helped lift more than 40 million people from poverty. But she's facing a tough race against former State Governor Aecio Neves, who wants to adopt more market-friendly fiscal measures to rein in public spending. The race is Brazil's most competitive presidential campaign in decades. It is also the most acrimonious, dominated by negative advertising and a steady drum beat of corruption allegations. Brazilians vote in a bitterly-contested election that pits a leftist president against a centrist senator who is promising pro-business policies.

Top separatist leader Alexander Zakharchenko congratulates freshly recruited soldiers as they take an oath of allegiance. But elsewhere in the rebel-held city of Donetsk -- where fighting has persisted despite a ceasefire agreement between the Kiev government and the rebels -- Local residents largely ignore the poll and try to get on with life as best they can. People line up for free food and tea at one of the city's canteens... ...and go to the theater. Actress Anna Usova says the show must always go on. "The theatre lived, lives and will live forever, because art is eternal," she says. As for the elections, separatists are looking to hold their own on November 3rd.

British, U.S. troops mark withdrawal from Helmand province

For one last time, American and British flags are lowered at the Bastion-Leatherneck military complex in Helmand Province. The ceremony marks the official end of British and American operations in the southwestern province, 13 years after a U.S.-led invasion launched the long and costly war against the Taliban. Britain's Camp Bastion and Camp Leatherneck, the largest U.S. base to be handed over to Afghan control, together formed the international coalition's regional headquarters for the southwest of Afghanistan. British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon says Afghan security forces are well-prepared to fight the Taliban.

And an army that's already proved itself over the last couple of years that it is prepared to tackle the Taliban in some of the more difficult areas of north Helmand, and therefore there is a greater chance that Afghanistan will be more secure."

The happy couple is holding a lavish reception at this country club outside London. Media sources say the Danesfield Hotel and Spa in Marlow was booked by the parents of the new Mrs. Clooney. The hotel's website says guests can helicopter to the site for their convenience. All very glitzy and glam but locals in nearby Marlow are kind of indifferent to the coming excitement. REPORTER: "What's your reaction? Are you excited?" SMITH: "No. He's just an ordinary guy, isn't he? Like me, I'm an ordinary guy. My wife's very excited." (SOUNDBITE) (English) LOCAL RESIDENTS, RACHEL AND JAN, SAYING: RACHEL: "I don't have any interest in that, do you?" JAN: "Not really." Not everyone is so casual about the whole thing. Biologist and former park chief, Ada Castillo, says many of the animals -- like the endangered puma -- are rarely seen by humans. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) BIOLOGIST AND FORMER MANU NATIONAL PARK CHIEF, ADA CASTILLO, SAYING: "The animals that are very difficult to see normally or when there are humans present -- such as the jaguar, puma, deer, and hogs -- have been identified through the photographic registry." 60 hidden cameras tracked the movements of the animals round the clock for one month -- garnering some 20,000 images. They will now be used to record animal populations and compare them with other countries. Earlier this year, it was reported that Manu broke a diversity world record after a nature journal catalogued nearly 300 amphibian and reptile species from the park and its buffer zone... ...making it a huge draw for nature lovers around the world.
