Deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak could be freed this week. That's according to his lawyer Fareed el-Deeb. He says a court will review his petition to release his client, now that the last remaining corruption charge against Mubarak has been dropped.

Mubarak has been jailed on corruption charges following a 2011 revolution that removed him from power. He was also sentenced to life in prison last year for failing to stop the killing of protesters during the revolt against him. He still faces a retrial in that case but this wouldn't require him to stay in jail. Wednesday's court hearing will be at the same Cairo prison where the former President is being held.

U.S. Soldier Bradley Manning is expected to be sentenced on Wednesday morning. The 25 year old private first class could face up to 90 years in prison for giving hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks. Prosecutors are requesting 60 years, while the defense is asking the judge not to "rob him of his youth." The massive leak made headlines around the world. The classified files contained secret State Department cables and information about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Manning had access to the classified documents while working as an intelligence analyst in Baghdad in 2010. He was convicted in July on 20 counts including espionage and theft.

Oil spill from sunken Philippine ferry threatens villages

An oil spill from a sunken ferry in the Philippines reaches nearby coastal villages, threatening the livelihood of residents. At least 52 people died when the ferry sank on Friday just outside the central port of Cebu following a collision with a cargo vessel. The oil spill has now reached Cordova town, some 3 kilometres from the impact site, affecting around 3,000 hectares of its coastal areas. This fishermen says no one will buy his fish fearing contaminated water due to the oil and dead bodies being recovered from the ferry. The Philippine Coastguard said they sent a team to contain the slick but strong waves were making the process difficult. Thirteen more bodies were recovered from the ferry on Monday, with 68 people still missing. Officials have temporarily suspended the search for missing passengers because of rough waves. Scores, sometimes hundreds of people die each year in ferry accidents in the Philippines, due to overcrowding and old or decrepit vessels.

Yahoo arrived in China 14 years ago. And one of the first services that it launched here was email. To many, it seemed to be the best choice at that time. In 2005, Yahoo sold its China business, including the mail service, to Alibaba, the country’s biggest e-commerce company.

In retrospect, this could have been the first hint of its fate. In September 2007, Yahoo China changed its email domain name from yahoo.com.cn to yahoo.cn. The company claimed that this would be a life-time mailbox for users. Combining many of Yahoo’s other services like Flickr and music box, the new email service helped the company win quite a lucrative share of the market, but only for a very short period of time.

On April 18th, Yahoo China told its users that it would close down its email services in China in four months. The decision came on the heels of the closure of music search in China last January, and the closing of its free photo service in 2009.

Millions of users will have to make the change, but a specific number is not yet available.

It was once the top email of choice, but now, yahoo.cn’s market share is only 2 percent.

But the news of the shutdown caught her off guard.

Before the service is completely shut down, users are advised to register with AliCloud run by Alibaba, which became yahoo China’s parent company in 2005. China has some 200 million email users, and nowadays it’s common to have multiple mailbox accounts, as consumers’ demands are changing all the time.

Wan Quan is also one of yahoo China’s users who’ve been slowly driven away by its competitors.

"The closure won't affect me too much and I’ve migrated my account to AliCloud. I chose yahoo China ten years ago because at the time there weren’t many other free and quality options, but now I also use qq because it’s easier to send super size emails."

Now, the top five e-mail services in China are all provided by Chinese companies. Tecent QQ, Sina, and Sohu are some of Yahoo’s most outstanding rivals.

Yahoo’s email service rank has dropped from number four to six from last year. And for foreign email lovers, there’s also some good choice.

It’s indeed troublesome, but the solution is one click away.

广州火车站部分列车恢复运行

Train services in south China’s city of Guangzhou have partially resumed after being suspended since Saturday due to landslides and downpours.

As of Monday, 68 trains have resumed services at the Guangzhou railway station, while three remain suspended. Trains which have resumed operation have to run at limited speeds in the section which has just reopened. All bullet trains between Guangzhou and Shenzhen resumed on Monday.

The Beijing-Guangzhou Railway’s section in Guangdong Province reopened on Sunday afternoon after 20 hours of repairs.
