在今天的课堂上，我要来学习的词语是：acquaintance。如果您想用acquaintance来表示“某人与某人有点儿认识”或“某人与某人略有交情”就可以使用这个词语。那么，又如何具体使用它来正确表示这个意思呢？我们来看下面的例句：

e.g. At Burlington I made an acquaintance with many principal people of the province. 在伯林顿，我认识了该州许多重要人物。

e.g. Mary was left to improve her acquaintance with Robert. 留下Mary与Robert加深交往。

在上面的2个例句中，我可以看到都使用了acquaintance with someone这个名词性短语结构，它与不同的动词搭配当然就有着不同的意思。

在Example-1中，made an acquaintance with many principal people of the province中使用了动词make和acquaintance with someone搭配作这个句子的谓语。What is more，我们还可看到acquaintance是一个 accountable noun（可数名词）。由于它的音标是以元音开头，所以还须在其前使用不定冠词“an”。

Made an acquaintance with many principal people of the province中的made an acquaintance表示“交往，结识”的意思。其后面紧跟介词with，with后面跟的是含有介词短语限制的名词短语many principal people of the province。那么，make an acquaintance with someone的意思就是“与某人交往，结识某人”。

在Example-2中，improve her acquaintance with Robert中使用了动词动词improve和acquaintance with someone搭配来做这个句子的谓语。Improve one’s acquaintance with someone表示“加深与某人的交往”。Improve后面跟名词短语her acquaintance，acquaintance后面跟介词with，with后面跟表示人名的名词Robert。

Juliet在此给您敲个警钟，我们用acquaintance这个名词来表示与某人进行肤浅的交往，一定是用acquaintance with someone这个固定的搭配模式。切记介词是with，勿用其它介词。
