REPORTED SPEECH (Ⅱ)

MR BRADLEY: We've got to get out of this valley before dark... These cliffs are dangerous in the dark.

PETER: It's going to be cold tonight, by the look of things.

MR BRADLEY: We've just got to find the waterfall. I know there's a Way up the cliffs beside that waterfall.

JAMES: If we don't find it soon we'll have to find somewhere to sleep.

PETER: We can t spend the night here.I want to go home.

MR BRADLEY: Don't make a fuss, Peter. It'll be all right. We'll find a cave.

1.REPORTED STATEMENTS

"These cliffs are dangerous."

He Said the Cliffs were dangerous.

"It's going to be cold tonight."

We knew it was going to be cold that night.(不是当天而是后来转述的)

"The boys are due back today."

He said the boys were due back today.

原话:

"We can't spend the night here."

He said we .couldn't spend the night there.

"He'll fall."

I KNEW/THOUGHI,he'd fall.

Peter

"I can hear the waterfall."

James

He RECKONED he could hear it.

James

"Hey,that's not a waterfall."

James

We both REALIZED it wasn't just water.

2. REPORTED ORDERS

"Don't make a fuss,Peter."

He told Peter not to make a fuss.

原话:

"Sit and wait."

He said to sit and wait.

Mr Bradley

"Peter, don't run."

James

When Peter started to run.

Mr Bradley told him not to (run).

Little Boy Lost

From the wild New England ranges

Came the word, one fateful day,

To every town and village, That a boy had lost his way.

All the townfolk: quickly gathered

And the wild bush horses tossed

As they went to search the ranges

For a little boy lost.
