Recently, I was told that managing is mostly common sense. Though I agree with this 1 in general, it leads me to a few very 2 conclusions.
In the IT field, entry level jobs are technical. As an engineer's career 3 , they become much more technical, with more responsibilities, and hopefully higher pay. 4 , some of these engineers are promoted to 5 , which is very non-technical. As mentioned above, these management jobs are more common sense by mostly 6 and evaluating daily tasks.
The surprising reality is that most managers didn't go into the IT field to do management work. These managers were never properly 7 and maybe not even interested in playing such a role. 8 , engineers have a tendency to be more unsociable, which perhaps will have a negative influence on the relationship between other staff and them. While this may be good for a(n) 9 , it can be very bad for a manager with staff 10 to them. As a result, engineers 11 to managers are more likely to be bad managers.
Therefore, from my point of view, young people who 12 want to become engineers really need to 13 if you'd like to be in management. The only 14 of being a manager over an engineer is the higher salary while the disadvantage is that managers will lose their 15 edge(优势).

"Come in and I ... I make you a cup of hot cocoa. "

Fall is a time when career regrets become stronger than during the relaxing summer months. New jobs appear on job boards, and many colleagues and friends move on to new careers or go off to graduate sch001. If you aren’t moving with them, you can become vulnerable (脆弱的) to "should have"thinking.
The"should haves"are hard to turn off. "I should have gotten that promotion" "I should have never chosen Public Relations." These "should haves" eat at you, particularly if you are comparing your careers to the careers of others.
Thinking a lot about what you should have done is especially destructive because it carries a feeling of futility(徒劳). Once that happens, anger and hate build up, and you quit trying. This is painfully obvious to others—you won’t get the best assignments and honestly, people avoid those who have bad attitudes. Instead of being upset about the negative, you have to change your thinking altogether.
The right approach is to replace the"should haves’’with"what ifs". Evelyn’s family persuaded her to go into accounting(会计), but after five miserable years at a financial services firm she still regretted not following her passion into music. She believed it was"too late to change now". and"I’d never be able to support myself. "
But when she started thinking about "what ifs’’ instead of "should haves". Evelyn’s attitude changed. She asked, "What if 1 work in an environment where there are lots of musicians and music?" The "what ifs" lead her to target accounting jobs in music departments of universities or in other music organizations. While she was looking, she volunteered to help a local music school Push out its books on Quick Books. When she mentioned her interest in a career change to some people on the board of the music school, they helped her get started networking in the music world. Now she is the financial administrator of a large music festival, where she gets flee music lessons with the performers.
If career regrets attack you this tall, get a few friends together, gain a little knowledge of yourself and try asking a different question:What if?
36. Which of the following is true?
A, Many people are strongl5’influenced by"should haves".

C. Workers should change their thinking to rid of bad moods.

38. Evelyn’s attitude changes from ____________.
A. being discouraged to being aggressive B. being unconfident to being positive
C. being powerless to being regretful. D. being disappointed to being optimistic

A. Evelyn became the administrator about music directly
B. Evelyn still loved music after five miserable years.

In China, as in many countries, the north—south divide runs deep. People from the north are seen as hale and hearty, while southerners are often portrayed as cunning, cultured traders. Northerners are taller than southerners. The north eat noodles, while the south eat rice ——and according to new research, when it comes to personality, that difference has meant everything.
A study published Friday by a group of psychologists in the journal Science finds that China's noodle。slurping northerners are more individualistic, show more"analytic thought"and divorce more frequently. By contrast, the authors write, rice-eating southerners show more hallmarks traditionally associated with East Asian culture. including more"holistic thought" and lower divorce rates.
The reason? Cultivating rice, the authors say, is a lot harder. Picture a rice paddy. its delicate seedlings tucked in a bed of water. They require careful tending and many hours of labor——by some estimates, twice as much as wheat--一as well as reliance on irrigation systems that require neighborly cooperation. As the authors write, for southerners growing rice. "strict self-reliance might have meant starvation. "
Growing wheat, by contrast, the north’s staple grain, is much simpler. One Chinese farming guide from the 1600s quoted in the study advised aspiring farmers that "if one is short of labor power, it is best to grow wheat. "
To produce their findings, the authors evaluated the attitudes of 1,162 Han Chinese students in Beijing and Liaoning in the north and in Fujian, Guangdong, Yunnan and Sichuan in the south. To control for other factors that distinguish the north and south--such as climate, dialect and contact with herding cultures——the authors also analyzed differences between various neighboring counties in five central provinces along China's rice. wheat border.
According to the authors, the influence of rice cultivation can help explain East Asia's"strangely persistent interdependence. "For example, they say South Korea and Japan have remained less individualistic than Western countries, even as they’ve grown more wealthy.
41. What does"that difference"in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. The north-south divide.
B. The north show warm heartfelt and friendliness while the south practicality and cleverness
C. The north eat noodles while the south eat rice.
D. Northerners and southerners.
42. Which of the following is Not true according to Paragraph 2?
A. In China, the northerners mainly live on noodles traditionally.
B. Divorce rates have nothing to do with individualistic culture.
C. Analytic thought is more typical of the northern culture.
D. Holistic thought is connected with rice—eating culture.
43. How does the author show the reasons for the difference in north—south personalities?
A. By explaining. B. By giving examples. C. By reasoning. D. By making comparison.
44. We can infer from the passage that ____________.
A. the north are more selfish and have higher divorce rates
B. it is a better choice for IIS to be a southerner in China
C. the southerners are more easy—going and cooperative
D. growing wheat is easier than growing rice in a way
45. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Cultures and Personality.
B. Wheat and Rice:How China’S Farming Culture Shapes Personalities
C. Noodles Eaters and Rice Eaters:What are the Differences?
D. Analytic Thought and Holistic Thought

I felt nervous when reading the email that I was being asked to do a live broadcast to over 8,000 workers. As a complete shy person, I had a lifelong fear of the camera and-public speaking.
I knew I had to say yes. First, I could not disappoint my manager; she is an outstanding woman who has done more to support me than anyone else in my entire career. Additionally, I believed I was the very person for the job. Months of discussions with our workers helped me to understand how to contact them and how we could help. Finally, during my whole life, my fears had stopped me from making decisions.
In order to accomplish the challenging job, I searched for useful information about what to speak and turned to others for help as to how to speak in public with no fear. Most importantly, I found every chance to speak bravely so as to build up my confidence.
In the end, I felt proud to have really made it. To this day, when I am out in the street, I am greeted by people whom I have never met telling me how much they enjoyed my speech. To this day, it still means a lot to my career and future.

When Faced with Difficulties
When asked to speak in public, the author felt nervous at first but decided to accept it for various reasons. He did all he could to practice speaking loudly and finally succeeded, which affects his life.
After reading the passage, I can’t help admiring the author for his great courage . Had he chosen to refuse to speak in public, he could never have dared to express himself before the others. On our life journey ,it’s out of the question for us to keep ourselves free from difficulties and troubles. What matters much is to accept them and then do everything in our power to find an effective solution.
The inspiring story above reminds me of my best friend Tom . Tom was always suffering from poor English . In order to change such a tough situation, he spent time and energy on English learning, remembering new words, reading passages, doing English exercises. Little by little, his great efforts paid off. Not only has he made amazing progress but he has also found much pleasure from learning English.
As senior 3 students, we naturally meet with problems and difficulties of different kinds in learning. In most cases, I prefer to deal with them independently, which is always painful but usually worthwhile especially when I find the solutions to them with my own efforts. If necessary, I will turn to my classmates and even the teachers for help.
In short, in the face of difficulties, we are supposed to face up to them and more importantly thrive to conquer them.
