1.climax n．顶点，最高点;（小说、戏剧等的）高潮 v．（使）达到顶点或高潮

【例】The party reached its climax with the appearance of the distinguished guest.

2.lean v．倾斜；（使）依靠，（使）倚靠 adj.瘦的，无脂肪的；贫乏的，收益少的
【例】lean upon The family had to le口n upon the allowance of the government to live.
这家人不得不依靠政府的补贴过活。

3.harmony n.调和，一致，和谐；和睦，友好
【记】词根记忆：harm(适合)+ony--彼此适合--调和
【例】We can work in harmony.
我们能协调一致地工作。
The progress of the society is based on harmony.
和谐是社会进步的基础。
【用】harmony常用搭配：①be in/out of harmony with[与…（不）协调一致]；②live in harmony（和睦相处）。

4.aware adj.知晓的，察觉的，意识到的
【记】联想记忆：a(表加强)+ware（留心）--察觉的
【例】Nowadays people are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of health.
如今的人们越来越意识到健康的重要性。(2002)
【用】aware常与of搭配使用表示“意识到…，察觉到…”的意思。

5.drain v．（使）慢慢流走，排出；把…弄干；喝干;使精疲力竭 n．排水沟（管）；消耗；（人才等）外流
【记】联想记忆：d+rain(雨)--没有了雨水--喝干
【例】It depends on how soon I can finish the drains at the office building.

【用】emigrate指往外移民，immigrate指往内部迁移，注意区别二者的方向。

8.gasp V．喘气，喘息，透不过气;气喘吁吁地说 n．喘气，喘息
【例】She drew her breath in with a gasp and half-rose to her feet.
她倒吸了一口冷气，几乎站不住脚。(2001)
【用】gasp sth. out意为“喘着气说出”。
