1.lodging n．住所，寓所；[pl.]出租的房间（公寓）
【例】We found the lodgings on the tour rather primitive.
我们发现旅途中住宿的地方相当简陋。
【用】lodging表示“出租的房间或公寓”的时候，通常用复数形式。

2.prosperous adj.繁荣的，昌盛的
【例】The prosperous city enjoyed a high level of civilization.
这座繁荣的城市文明程度很高。

3.endeavo(u)r n./v.努力，力图;尝试
【例】I believe it is his duty to endeavor to restore health.
我认为努力恢复健康是他的责任。
【用】endeavor后接动词不定式表示“努力去做某事”。

4.prejudice n．偏见，成见 Vt．使抱偏见；损害
【记】词根记忆：pre(预先)+judic(判断)+e--先入为主的判断易有偏见--偏见
【例】The investigation showed that the prejudice among urban residents against peasants was growing.
调查发现，城里人对农民的偏见日益加深。
Your unkempt appearance may prejudice your reputation as a manager.
作为经理，不修边幅会使你的声誉受损。

5.behave v．举动，表现；检点（自己的行为）
【记】联想记忆：be+have(有)--所拥有的动作--举动，表现
【例】Most fashion magazines or TV advertisements try to persuade us that we should dress in a certain way or behave in a certain manner.
大多数时尚杂志或电视广告都试图说服我们应该有某种特定的穿着和举止风范。(2002)
behave yourself If you don't promise to behave yourself then I must ask you to leave.
如果你不答应检点自己的行为，我就必须让你离开。
【派】behavio(u)r（n．举止，行为）
【辨】behave, conduct这两个词都指行为举止，后面常常跟反身代词。behave通常指行为举止恰当，有规矩，有礼貌；conduct指处于特定场合下的行为，如：The boy conducted well at the party.

6.constitute vt.构成，组成
【记】词根记忆：con+stitut(建立，放置)+e--组成
【例】Fifty states constitute this country.
这个国家由50个州组成。
【派】constitution(n．宪法；体质，体格；构造，结构)；constitutional（adj.体格的，体质上的；构成的；符合宪法的，宪法所规定的）

7.complimentary adj.赞美的，恭维的；赠送的，免费的
【例】His boss gave a complimentary remark for his outstanding performance.
他的老板致辞赞美他出色的表现。
Do you have some complimentary drink?
您这儿有免费饮料吗？

8.rack n.（放置物件的）架子 vt．使痛苦，折磨
【例】We rack our brains to find a way to solve the problem.
我们绞尽脑汁寻找解决这个问题的方法。
【用】词组rack one's brains表示“绞尽脑汁”的意思。
