1.utilize vt.利用，应用

【例】People are trying to utilize the heat of the eruptions of volcanoes for the production of electricity.

2.deceive v．欺骗，欺诈
【记】词根记忆：de(非)+ceive(拿，抓)--用非正常手段拿--欺骗
【例】Anthony deceived the young girl deceives him.
安东尼欺骗了那个爱他的年轻女孩。
【用】deceive指有意隐瞒或歪曲真相以获得某种利益，固定搭配是deceive sb. into doing sth.表示“欺骗某人做某事”。
【派】deceit(n．欺骗，欺诈；骗术)；deceitful（adj.欺诈的，不诚实的）；deception(n.欺骗；诡计，骗局)；deceptive( adj.欺骗的，虚假的，容易使人上当的)

3.corporal adj.肉体的，身体的

【用】词组have mercy on/upon是“对…有怜悯心”的意思。
【派】merciful（adj.仁慈的，宽大的）；merciless（adj.残忍的，冷酷无情的）

6.predominant adj.占优势的，占主导地位的，最显著的
【记】联想记忆：pre(前)+dominant(统治的)--在前面统治的--占主导地位的
【例】Dancers had a predominant role in this performance.
舞蹈者在这场演出中占了主导地位。
【辨】dominant，predominant
二者都含有“最优的，最高的”之意。dominant强调有统治地位，影响和势力最大的，如：the dominant politician；predominant强调有优势，在权力、地位等方面超过其他的，如：the predominant feeling。

【派】intensity[n.强烈，激烈；（电、热、光等的）强度]；intensive（adj.加强的，集中的；精耕细作的）
【辨】intense, intensive两个词都有“强烈的”之意。intense一般用来形容人的感情强烈，如：intense emotion; intensive更多的指外部事物强加的、密集的，如：intensive training。

8.sprinkle v．洒，喷，淋 n.少量，少数
【例】Sarah sprinkled some perfume on herself.莎拉往身上喷了些香水。
There is a sprinkle of water on the carpet.
地毯上有少量的水。
【用】词组a sprinkle of表示“少量的”。
