1.sensible adj.明智的，明理的；知道的，察觉的，感觉得到的；显著的

【记】词根记忆：sens(感觉)+ible--感觉得到的
【例】The sensible investor remained unshaken after the stock-market crash.
明智的投资者在股市暴跌以后仍然没有动摇？
【派】sensibility[n．敏感性，灵敏度；[pl.]（易生气或易受刺激的）感情]
【辨】aware, conscious,sensible
三个词都有“意识到的”之意。aware侧重感官意识；consclous侧重心理感知；sensible侧重感官察觉到的事物，但强调其复杂与抽象，如：I am sensible of your kindness。

2.wrap v.把…包起来，缠，捆 n.披肩，围巾

【例】The nurse carried ina baby wrapped up in a warm blanket.
保姆抱着一个孩子进来，孩子身上裹着暖暖的毯子。
I get up．light a candle and want to look at the skirts. They are still in the newspaper that the woman wrapped them in.

【用】wrap sb. up in cotton wool表示“过分保护某人”。

3.insure [inISua]vr．保险；保证，确保

【记】联想记忆：in(使)+sure（确定的）一确保
【例】Airlines are being hit with huge increases toinsure their planes after the terrorist attacks in the United States.
在美国遭受恐怖袭击后，飞机投保费用的大幅增长使航空公司遭受重创，( 2003)
【派】insurance（n．安全保障；保险，保险业）；insured(n.被保险人，投保人adj.加入保险的)；insurer(n.承保人，保险公司)
【辨】lnsure,assure, ensure
这三个词比较形近，且都有“保证，担保”的意思。insure -般指“为…上保险”；assure只用来指人，表示给某人作保证使其放心；ensure经常可与insure互换，但没有“保险”的意思。

4.unexpected adj.没有料到的，您不到的，突如其来的

【例】Bathing will cool you but remember that fatal accidents can happen very easily and in the most unexpected conditions．
游泳可以让你感到凉爽，但要记住，致命的事故很容易在最意料不到的情况下发生。( 2002)

5.praise n./vt.表扬，赞美

【记】词根记忆：prais(价值)+e--称赞有价值--赞美
【例】The visitors pruised the magruficent architecture of the palace.
游客称赞了这座宫殿宏伟壮丽的建筑风格。

6.grieve vt．使悲痛；使苦恼 vi.悲伤；哀悼

【记】词根记忆：griev(重)+e一心情沉重--使悲痛
【例】It does grieve me to lose Charles.
失去查尔斯真的让我很伤心？
【用】grieve有两种用法，一种是grieve over sth.，另一种是grieve to do sth.，都表示“为…而伤心”。
【派】grief(n.悲痛，悲伤；不幸，灾难；伤心事)

7.spill v.（使）溢出，（使）溅出

【例】Be careful! Don't spdlmilk on the rug.
小心！别把牛奶洒到地毯上。
Tears spill from her blinking eyes.
她一眨眼，眼泪就流了出来。
【辨】spill，drop, drip
三个词都与“溅出，滴落”有关。spill多指液体洒落、溢出；drop可指固体昀滴落，也可指液体的滴落；drip只表示液体的下落。

8.intention n.意图，打算，目的;意思，含义

【记】词根记忆：in(使)+tent(伸展)+ion一欲望伸展--意图
【例】Tony has not the least intention of giving upIus research work.
托尼丝毫没有放弃研究的打算。( 1997)
【用】词组have no/every int,ention of doing sth.表示“有，无做某事的意图”的意思；one's intention to do sth.指“某人做某事的意图”。
【派】intentional( adj.有意的，故意的)
【辨】intention, wish, desire
三个词都有“意图，想做…”的意思，但在具体意思上有很大的区别。intention指意图，后面一般跟“of+动名词”结构；wish指希望或良好的祝愿；desire强调的是一种渴望与期望。
