1.mechanize vt.使（过程、工厂等）机械化

2.terminal n.末端，终点；终点站：（电脑的）终端机 adj.每学期的，每期的；末端的，终点的；晚期的

【记】词根记忆：ternun(界限)+al一到达界限一末端的
【例】Walter takes a seat at the terminrrl to wait for his partner.
沃尔特在终点站找了个地方坐了下来等他的伙伴。

【记】词根记忆：re(重新)+viv(生命)+e--使苏醒
【例】The doctor slaps the girl in coma lightly in the face to revive her.
医生轻拍这个昏迷女孩的脸，使她苏醒过来。
Share prices on the Stock Exchange plunged sharply in the morning but revrved slightly in the afternoon.

【辨】regain,recover, restore,revive
四个词都有“恢复”的意思。regiun强调收回被夺走的东西；recover指失去的东西又重新得到，也指身体痊愈；restore指旧的东西重新复原；revive指重新充满活力，恢复生气。

4.vomit v．呕吐，作呕

【例】The strange man could vomit the contents of his stomach by his own volition.
那名神秘的男子能凭借自己的意志把胃里的东西呕吐出来。

5.private adj.社人的；私立的，私营的；秘密的，私下的；幽僻的

【记】词根记忆：priv(单个)+ate一私人的
【例】Land belongs to the cily; there is no such a thing as private ownership of land．
土地属于城市，不存在土地私有这种事情。(2006)
【辨】personal,indMdual,private
这三个词都有“个人的”之意。personal主要指“自身的，亲自的”，如：personal affairs; individual强调个体，与collective相对；pnvate侧重隐私，侧重不便为外人所知的事。

6.facility n.[pl.]设备，工具：简易，便利；技能，熟练

翻译人员必须掌握有关源语言广博且最新的知识，并对目标语言有很强的驾驭能力。(2002)
【辨】appliance, equipment, facility
这三词都有“设备，设施”的意思。appliance常用来指电器设备或电器元件，如：Housework has been made easier by electrical appliance.；equipment泛指任何能够完成某项工作的工具设施，如：Thieves stole all the video equipment from the college.;facility指可以使人工作得更加便利的设备，通常用复数形式。

7.bias n.偏见，倾向性 vi.抱有偏见，县有倾向性

【记】联想记忆：bi(二)+as--二者只取其一--偏见
【例】I'm sure our audience will object to your gender bias.
我确信我们的观众会反对你的性别歧视。
【用】bias通常情况下指一种倾向和偏好，而prejudice则侧重不好的偏见，尤指成见。
