A 61 year old man is dead and his wife has suffered serious injuries after a dog attack in Melbourne's north. Police were forced to shoot at the animal to stop it attacking the woman, when they were called to the house at Mill Park just after half-past-six last night. The man had been critically injured and died at the scene. The woman is in hospital with serious injuries. The dog has been taken by the local council and is expected to be destroyed.
The father of an Australian Islamic State fighter being held in a Syrian prison is begging the federal government to bring his son back to face trial. Mahir Absar Alam went to Syria to join the terrorist group in 2014. The 26 year old has been detained in Syria since the fall of the caliphate in March. His father wants his son, daughter in law and two grandchildren brought back to Australia.
The British ambassador to Washington has resigned amid a row over his criticism of US president Donald Trump and his administration. Sir Kim Darroch says the situation has made it impossible for him to carry out his role. Earlier, president Trump criticised Sir Kim, after leaked emails described his administration as inept and dysfunctional.
