Turner's new game
At 23, Sophie Turner is best known for her role as Sansa Stark, who, after long suffering, becomes the powerful "Queen of the North" in the popular TV series Game of Thrones. The fantasy show came to an end last month.
The English actress's new role is as Jean Grey, also known as "Dark Phoenix", in the movie X-Men: Dark Phoenix. It plays in Chinese mainland cinemas from June 6.
In the film, Grey, who is an X-Man, develops amazing new powers that also reveal a dark side to her personality. Though she struggles to control her impulses, Grey still hurts her friends.
Turner sees Grey as a unique female anti-hero who is "both the protagonist and antagonist", the actress told The New York Times.
The character appealed to Turner because she is strong female – a type that she thinks should be normalized in movies. "What I loved was the fact that, from a female standpoint, some of the most powerful characters in this movie are women," Turner told the Canadian entertainment news program CBR. "I loved the concept of that, and that really excited me."
