Celebrating Gong Li
With a career spanning four decades, Gong Li is one of China’s most famous actresses and a darling of the international film industry.
To recognize her contribution, the 53-year-old Chinese-born Singaporean actress was honored with the Cannes Film Festival’s Women in Motion award on May 19.
“Making films is fundamental in my life, and I am most grateful to be able to continue to share my work and my passion,” Gong said in a statement.
Gong has starred in many films. She played the leading role in Zhang Yimou’s Red Sorghum, Raise the Red Lantern and To Live and Chen Kaige’s Farewell My Concubine, which won the Palme d’Or at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival.
Gong is also dedicated to sharing her views on movies with the world. She has served on the juries of many international film festivals, including the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.
Known as a classic beauty who is passionate about her work, Gong certainly will continue to make the headlines in the years to come.
