The Brazilian Agriculture Ministry confirmed on Monday that China, Chile, and the European Union have temporarily banned beef imports from Brazil. That's because some meat-packers had been allowed to sell expired meat as exports.

The announcement came despite Brazilian President Michel Temer's meetings with ambassadors to assure them Brazilian meat is safe.

Some of the Brazilian companies that exported the expired meat face charges. That's because they allegedly improved the appearance and smell of the outdated meat with chemicals.

Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi said he's worried about the impact of the scandal on Brazilian agricultural business and jobs.
