A refugee from Afghanistan living in Germany has his wish fulfilled to shake hands with Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The boy, known only as Edris, was introduced to Merkel at a regional conference of her CDU party in the southern city of Heidelberg. Supporters broke into applause when Merkel greeted Edris, who was seen wiping away tears.
Merkel is faced with calls to resign because of her open-door refugee policy, which helped a total of one million migrants enter Germany last year.
