The city of Gwadar on the southwestern Arabian Sea coastline of Pakistan is on its way to becoming a duty-free port.
The Pakistani government intends to transform Gwadar into a key hub in the region as construction of the port gears up as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a project considered crucial to the China-proposed "Belt and Road" Initiative.
Management of the Gwadar port has been transferred to a Chinese company.
