MP with Baby Forced to Leave Parliament in Kenya
A female MP was asked to leave parliament in Kenya this week after bringing her five-month-old baby with her to work. Zuleika Hassan explained that she brought her baby because she was unable to get childcare that day, and there was no nursery on site. Other female MPs showed support for their colleague by walking out of the chamber with her. While the house rules say that “strangers” including children are not allowed in the chamber, the MP argued that the government should set an example by offering family-friendly workspaces.
