So let's take the pessimists first.
我们先来看悲观主义者
They have certain goal, and they have low expectations, low levels of beliefs, they don't think they would do well.
他们有某个目标，他们的期望低，信念不高，他们不认为自己能做好
Low levels of motivation, their mind looks for consistency,
积极性低，他们的大脑寻求一致
and their performance is usually according to their beliefs and expectations.

And the interpretation is, I told you so.

I told you I couldn't do well here.
我早就跟你说了我做不好
And then everyone else in a chorus says, yes, you told us so.

How wonderfully realistic of you.
你这样现实真是好啊
But then sometimes a pessimist succeeds beyond his or her expectations.
但有时悲观主义者超出了自身的期望取得了成功
And then what happens?
那么又会怎么样呢

The interpretation is, low levels of beliefs,
这时的解释是，低水平的信念
so the interpretation is, well, it was lucky, it was because Mars was in front of Venus,
那么解释就是，只是走运而已，是因为火星转到了金星的前面
and that only happens once every 50 years, won't happen again.
50年难得一遇，不会再发生了
Or, it was my lucky day, or, she just played very poorly today.
或者，今天是我的幸运日，或者是因为她今天表现得不好
And then, the mind looking for consistency, they go around that loop again and again, and then become realistic once more.
于是，大脑在寻求一致，一次又一次地重复这个循环，然后再一次变得现实
Unsuccessfully realistic, but realistic.
不成功的现实，但是现实
So they're realistic in the short term as well as in the long term.
于是他们在短期目标上同样也在长期目标上很现实
Let's look at the optimist now.
我们现在来看乐观主义者
The optimist starts with high levels of beliefs, high levels of expectations, motivation, incredibly high.
乐观主义者一开始有着很高的信念，很高的期望，积极性，非常高
The mind looking for consistency, performance, not so good, not as good as the expectations were.
他们的大脑寻求一致性，表现，没那么好，没期望中的那么好
In other words, unrealistic.
换言之就是，不现实
